Waxing Tips Tanners Lane

Waxing – 3 top questions answered at Tanners Lane

Having a salon you can trust needs to be at the forefront of your mind, particularly with sensitive areas and hair removal. We’re often asked the same questions by our clients, and so we thought we’d pick the top three to answer in our beauty blog this week!

How often should I wait between waxes?

With the summer approaching, it can be difficult to know how long to wait – especially if you’re always heading for the beach!

To prepare for the summer, it’s important to start early to get your hair on a waxing cycle, you can then keep this up all year. This way, the length of time between waxing treatments will increase – as the more you wax, the weaker your hair follicle becomes, making it easier to remove the hair. So, if you’ve stopped waxing in the winter, you reverse all of that hard work (and pain!) that you’d previously achieved, as the hair follicle strengthens again.

If you’re new to the world of waxing, ask your beautician about having a ‘touch up’ between waxes, which will help transition your hair growth from shaving to waxing. This will put your hair into a waxing cycle and you’ll see better results too.

What can I do to make the hair come out better?

Keeping your skin hydrated and healthy is key. If you have dry skin in the area you want your wax, it’s more likely to break the hair off before the root. The way to achieve this is simple – plenty of water, and a decent moisturiser! Keep up a moisturising schedule several days before your wax to ensure your skin is in tip top condition.

How do I avoid post-wax irritation?

Irritated skin is an annoying result of getting that hair-free finish. But with a few little tips, you can reduce any inflammation. To soothe irritated skin, use a cold compress, just to calm down inflamed areas and close the pores. Next use a soothing moisturiser, and apply it generously. If you’d paid attention to our second question answered, you should already have a decent moisturiser to hand!

Our final piece of advice would be to be wear loose clothing on the day of your treatment to avoid it rubbing on sensitive areas. This means maybe it’s worth having your wax done the day before your night out – avoiding the risk of chafing as you’re dancing the night away!
