Tanning at Tanners Lane

Top up your tan before you go away

Flights are booked, hotel is chosen, and there’s an app on your phone counting down the seconds! Holiday season is almost upon us, and we can’t wait to be lying flat out on the beach with the sun warming our faces! But are you fully ready to bare (almost) all on the beach?

Prepping yourself for two weeks away is a great excuse to indulge in a little bit of pampering, and more and more of us are adding a sunbed or s fake tan to that routine. A few sessions under one of our red light beds or UV beds can take away the white glow and give you the confidence to pack that extra short pair on shorts!

Many of us forget the strength of the sun and just how quickly you can burn if you’re not careful, and so prepping your skin with a course of minutes on the sunbed can help reduce turning bright red on day one.

Here at Tanners Lane we can let you know exactly what skin type you have and advise you on how many minutes you should use the sun beds for. Unlike many other tanning salons, we take the time to read through your questionnaire to make sure you and your skin can enjoy a tan without the risk of burning. The benefits of tanning have long been recognised, but for the sake of your holiday, a confidence boost can easily be reason enough!

Why you should take care of your skin during the summer

Why you should take care of your skin during the summer

Warmer weather is fantastic, there’s no doubt about that! But a change in the weather should also mean a change in your skin care routine too. Dry heat, air conditioning and sunshine can all dry out your skin, and so getting into the habit of excoriating and moisturising can make the difference between flakey skin, a patchy tan and blotchy make up.

Adopting a skin care routine that works for your skin type can have no end of benefits, but here are a few of our favourites.

Get better results from your wax

Healthier skin means smoother skin, and smoother skin means you’ll get a better result from your wax. So if you’re getting ready for a sunny escape, or simply keeping up appearances, exfoliating and moisturising before and after your wax is a must. Waxing can make your skin a little sensitive, and it will be thankful for a bit of extra TLC.

Get a more even tan

Whether you’re a lover of our sun beds, or want to fake it til you make it, having a tan is a real confidence booster. And moisturising your skin not only makes your tan look smoother, but it also will last longer too! Exfoliating and moisturising should be part of your routine already when it comes to tanning, but taking those extras step will ensure you have a healthy glow all summer long.

Less patchy makeup

Whether you contour with creams or with powders, or don’t contour at all, having blotchy make up is a nightmare. Even if you have the best brands on the market, and the right shades to suit your skin tone, if your makeup just doesn’t sit right you’ll be annoyed with it all day long. Sorting your skin care routine and sticking to it every day will keep your makeup looking great all day, and you’ll never again need to worry about patchiness and the touching up that comes with it.

So, avoid falling into the pitfall of dry summer skin, and start caring for it a little more, smoother waxes, longer lasting tans and flawless makeup have got to be reasons to give it a go!

Waxing Tips Tanners Lane

Waxing – 3 top questions answered at Tanners Lane

Having a salon you can trust needs to be at the forefront of your mind, particularly with sensitive areas and hair removal. We’re often asked the same questions by our clients, and so we thought we’d pick the top three to answer in our beauty blog this week!

How often should I wait between waxes?

With the summer approaching, it can be difficult to know how long to wait – especially if you’re always heading for the beach!

To prepare for the summer, it’s important to start early to get your hair on a waxing cycle, you can then keep this up all year. This way, the length of time between waxing treatments will increase – as the more you wax, the weaker your hair follicle becomes, making it easier to remove the hair. So, if you’ve stopped waxing in the winter, you reverse all of that hard work (and pain!) that you’d previously achieved, as the hair follicle strengthens again.

If you’re new to the world of waxing, ask your beautician about having a ‘touch up’ between waxes, which will help transition your hair growth from shaving to waxing. This will put your hair into a waxing cycle and you’ll see better results too.

What can I do to make the hair come out better?

Keeping your skin hydrated and healthy is key. If you have dry skin in the area you want your wax, it’s more likely to break the hair off before the root. The way to achieve this is simple – plenty of water, and a decent moisturiser! Keep up a moisturising schedule several days before your wax to ensure your skin is in tip top condition.

How do I avoid post-wax irritation?

Irritated skin is an annoying result of getting that hair-free finish. But with a few little tips, you can reduce any inflammation. To soothe irritated skin, use a cold compress, just to calm down inflamed areas and close the pores. Next use a soothing moisturiser, and apply it generously. If you’d paid attention to our second question answered, you should already have a decent moisturiser to hand!

Our final piece of advice would be to be wear loose clothing on the day of your treatment to avoid it rubbing on sensitive areas. This means maybe it’s worth having your wax done the day before your night out – avoiding the risk of chafing as you’re dancing the night away!

If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch. And book online today to get your hair in its waxing cycle in time for the summer.

The Benefits of Gel Polish

With so many different kinds of nail treatments, it can be hard to decide which one to opt for. At Tanners Lane our beauticians are trained in Gel nails and work hard to give you the shape and colour you’re after. If you’re not sure what colour to choose, check out our ‘Choosing the Perfect Nail Colour This Spring’ blog.

With regards to recent questions asked by a few clients in relation to the risk of the UV light used to harden the gel polish, we thought we would put our client’s minds at rest and provide them with the following information:

The Daily Mail reached out to a spokeswoman from Creative Nail Designs (CND), the company behind Shellac, a gel polish brand, and the company noted, “UV light exposure from a gel manicure lamp is no more dangerous than sitting under strip lighting (florescent lighting).”

What are the many benefits of gel nail polish?

  1. It can last for up to 3 to 4 weeks without chipping, peeling or fading. No dents or scratches, and its chip free!
  1. It dries quickly under UV light so there’s no need to worry about smudging on the way home.
  2. It can be used to extend the length of your nails if you use tips underneath. This is a great and natural way to strengthen your own nail and to therefore encourage your nails to grow.
  3. It has an odourless application, as opposed to acrylic nails that can be a little potent when applying.
  4. They are easy to remove.

HD Brows Tanners Lane

To HD brow or not to HD brow… that is the question…

Maybe you’re fair-haired, maybe your brows are a little scraggly, or maybe you just don’t feel right if your eyebrows haven’t been given the correct attention? Whatever the reason, our HD brow service, consisting of an eyebrow tint and wax, is just £12!

Our trained beauticians know all things ‘brow’ – whether that’s getting the shape to work with your eyes, hair line and face shape, or ensuring they aren’t too dark – or too light for that matter!

Why are HD brows so popular?

Our eyes are in the centre of the face, and our eyebrows frame them, this makes them a huge focal point and they’re perfect for expressing yourself! What about the rules of attraction? Well, research has shown that if someone thinks you’re attractive they’ll do what’s known as an ‘eyebrow flash’ – meaning they’ll raise their eyebrows for just a split second. It opens the face and it’s a completely subconscious response to sexual attraction.

So the reasons for HD brows are twofold

  • Firstly, they open up your face, frame your eyes and allow you to communicate without words.
  • Secondly, they can cue sexual attraction!

The eyebrow flash is a social signal known among friends and family too – it signals wanting to come over and have a chat, or perhaps recognition- ‘I see you, hi!’

Eyebrows are more important than you think

With this said, it just goes to show the significance those two measly eyebrows have on your face. So it’s about time you care about them a little more and get a professional at Tanners Lane to shape them and tint them ready for when you next take them out!
